Behind the Cotton Curtain
The Core Theatre
518 W. Arapaho Rd. Richardson
One of the quiet pioneers of the civil rights movement, Medgar Evers' groundbreaking work in Mississippi for the NAACP helped set the tone for national leaders as they worked to bring down the Jim Crow system. Behind the Cotton Curtain is a new work that explores the life and legacy of this activist, who was assassinated in June 1963 before reaching the promised land of freedom. While people remember that Rosa sat down and Martin stood up, Medgar did the day-to-day work of pushing the civil rights envelope in a dangerous time, opening the doors for future generations.
